Nathan Beard joined LeGros Buchanan & Paul in 2018. He represents vessel owners, underwriters, businesses, and employers in a variety of state and federal court litigation. His litigation experience includes claims involving catastrophic marine casualties, Jones Act, vessel arrest, Death on the High Seas Act, limitation of liability, subrogation, Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, pollution, products liability, and breach of contract, and he has argued before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Nathan also provides general legal counsel to his clients, including advice regarding insurance coverage, contracts, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
Nathan is a Puget Sound native. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Washington, where he was a Veterans of Foreign War Scholarship recipient. He attended law school at the Seattle University School of Law where he studied litigation and maritime law. After being admitted to the bar, Nathan prosecuted criminal cases before joining civil practice.
Nathan was named to the Washington Super Lawyers "Rising Stars" list in 2016-2019. Nathan is an associate member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, and a member of Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Washington, Maritime Insurance Association of Seattle, and Puget Sound Marine Claims Association.
Nathan is admitted to practice in Washington and Alaska, and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
